CIRS x CERN In Conversation: The Manosphere   Have you ever heard the terms 'incel', 'red pill' or 'looksmaxxing' and wondered what they mean, where they came from, and why so many people are using them in online forums? If so, this event is the perfect opportunity to address any questions, queries, or concerns!   Curtin International Relations Society and the Curtin Extremist Research Network are teaming up to host an exclusive In Conversation event exploring the manosphere and its links to radicalisation and extremist ideologies. Bringing together researchers and academics spanning the fields of International Relations, Strategic Studies, and History, this discussion-style panel will encourage open, cross-disciplinary dialogue on one of the most pressing issues today. This isn't a phenomena restricted to the online world - it affects us all. So, whether you're a member or not, we encourage you to attend and learn about what the Manosphere is, how it functions, and what impacts it's having on a global scale.    Our esteemed panel members include: Dr Ben (Tim) Rich- Director of CERN, senior lecturer for IR & History, and a well-published academic. His research interests encompass extremism and radicalisation, OST, societal decay, and Middle Eastern politics Dr Phillip Chilton - Casual academic, CERN member, historian and passionate activist. His research interests span political extremism, Marxism, and the weaponisation of symbolism Ms Bella Dunbar-Tapp - PhD candidate, seasonal academic, and CERN member. Her research interests include development of identity/extremist ideology, psychoanalysis, and the intersection between IR & Psychology The panel will be moderated by our Social Media Manager, Sari Wilson.   This event will take place on-campus in Building 401, Room 1.   CIRS Debates This House Believes.... TBC   CIRS invites you to our first Oxford Union-style debate, a formal, adversarial format modelled on one of the world's oldest and most respected deliberative traditions; two sides, one motion, and a room that decides who makes the better case.   Unlike a panel discussion, this is a debate in the truest sense: prepared speakers argue opposing positions, face live challenges from the floor, and attempt to move the room. The winner is determined not by who starts with the most support, but by how many votes they change.   Expect tight arguments, pointed questions, and a vote that actually matters. PhD Masterclass Series   Ever wondered what IR research actually looks like beyond the textbook? This semester, the Curtin International Relations Society is launching a new masterclass series featuring PhD researchers presenting their work in short, accessible sessions followed by open Q&A. This is the perfect opportunity for students to learn about postgraduate work, better understand research in the field of IR, and network with faculty members. Guild O'Day is back for Semester 2 of 2026! Whether you're a current or new student, we welcome you to come visit campus for a day full of giveaways, activities, and exploration.   The Curtin International Relations Society will be hosting a stall to showcase the club, so if you're interested in international relations, foreign affairs, humanitarianism and politics, you should stop by! Our committee members will be manning the stall to chat, answer questions, run activities, and give away prizes/merchandise. We welcome anyone and everyone to visit!   This semester, CIRS will be providing you with two different activities for you to partake in. The first will be a round of trivia, featuring broad questions relating to IR and foreign affairs. Those who get enough answers correct will win a prize package! The second activity is a classic guessing game, where we challenge you to correctly estimate the amount of sweets in our jar. Participants must be either pre-existing members or new members who join on the day.    Guild vouchers provided can be used to pay for membership if you're interested in joining the CIRS!
